WILDERNESS AND NATURE GUIDE

Behind Lake & Hike is me – a nature-loving adventurer who can't look at a map without immediately starting to plan the next trip. I'm especially fascinated by waterways, remote rivers, and small lakes; places where few people ever venture. In my free time, I plan and embark on adventures by kayak, on foot, and in winter on skis. I love the feeling of reaching new places under my own power and experiencing nature in all its peace and quiet.

If I had to choose one favorite summer activity, it would be whitewater kayaking. The roar of the rapids, the power of the water, and the need to be completely present make it something truly unique. It's just a shame that in recent years, water levels have sometimes been lower than I'd like. Fishing, on the other hand, offers the perfect balance to all that excitement. Sometimes it's enough to simply head out onto the water, let your thoughts settle, and cast a lure without any rush. For me, fishing is one of the best ways to unwind and recharge in nature.

Besides the outdoors, there is another great passion in my life: dogs. My first adventure companion was Sylvi, a Labrador Retriever. Together we've explored the outdoors year-round and learned everything from winter camping to skijoring. We've even tested how well we can sleep outside in temperatures below -20°C (-4°F). On my own, I've spent a night outdoors in -36°C (-33°F) and slept surprisingly well. Last Christmas, our pack grew by two Siberian Husky puppies, Nila and Skadi. These days we're learning the basics of camping, trekking, and dog-powered adventures together. At the same time, Sylvi has taken on the role of teacher, showing the youngsters what's left, what's right, and how things are done. My long-term dream is to build a team of 6–8 huskies and one day compete in sled dog races. I also dream of organizing skijoring and dog-assisted winter trekking trips, where every participant would have their own dog helping them along the trail. Time will tell where this dream leads.

Second professionally, I work as a practical nurse in elderly care. Over the years, I've also worked in daycare and with people who have physical disabilities. These experiences have allowed me to meet people from many different backgrounds and have taught me the importance of understanding individual needs. For me, the outdoors is not about performance—it's about experience. I want to offer adventures where people can relax, learn something new, challenge themselves, or simply enjoy nature in good company.

I also have a background of nearly 20 years in Finnish baseball (pesäpallo), but these days my heart belongs to the lakes, forests, and planning the next adventure. Lake & Hike was born from a desire to share this lifestyle with others. I want to show that a meaningful outdoor experience doesn't have to be complicated or extreme. Sometimes the best adventure is found on a nearby lake from the seat of a kayak. Sometimes it's found on a forest trail, beside a campfire, or on a snowy winter landscape with a dog leading the way. If you've read this far, thank you. I hope we'll meet someday on the water, on the trail, or out in the winter wilderness.
